Day 15 - Aug 20 - Talk at the Philippine Computer Society

The day started quite early. I had to speak at the Philippine Computer Society monthly membership meeting. I had to leave at 5 before 7 am to be able to arrive in Makati by 8:30. Traffic along EDSA was very heavy. We got to Makati at 8:05.

I went to the Microsoft office since that was the venue for the meeting. I am impressed at the Makati area - at least the business district. It is clean and orderly.

The meeting went on quite well. It started with a prayer in honor of Cory Aquino. The national anthem was sung. What was interesting is that in the prayer, everyone was singing and during the national anthem, everyone had their hands on their chest. It was quite a sight.

Titus' talk was very interesting. He talked about having a mindset for success.

My talk followed his. I spoke about other areas that the Philippine IT companies can pursue if they want to penetrate the IT market abroad. Let's face it, application development had been the primary service provided since the 1980's. It's the 21st century and that still is the primary service. This should change.

With China and India and a host of other countries coming into the market, we cannot compete with them. We need to move to value added services. That was what my talk was about. I hope that my talk would generate discussions about this.

Here's hoping and praying for a greater market for Philippine IT companies.
