From there, we took the LRT to Chinatown. We dropped by the Sta. Cruz church. I told Joseph that I often drop by that church when I was in university.
We then walked through the streets of Chinatown. We walked through Escolta, the former financial district of Manila during the American era. We walked through Nueva St, which is now Yuchengco Street. We went to Chuankee. It is a lot cleaner than before. It also has a new owner, but the traditional food is still being served. It was 10:30 am.
We ordered Maki Mi, Siopao and Kiampong. Their siopao is ube, since this is owned by Eng Bee Tin. The food was good - as per Joseph.
We went to the nearby Minor Basilica of St. Lorenzo Ruiz. This church served the Chinese community since the 16th century. St. Lorenzo Ruiz also worked in this church as an 'escriba'.
This is also the church where I was baptized. I was amazed at the church. It had murals on the ceiling with the fifteen mysteries of the rosary. We also went to their adoration chapel.
We passed through the Chinese Sto. Rosario parish. I learned they
have English, Tagalog, Mandarin and Amoy mass. I've never
attended an Amoy mass. It would be an interesting experience.
We saw some of the volunteer fire trucks along Ongpin. Since this was sponsored by Eng Bee Tin, you guessed, it the trucks were colored purple! I took a picture of a truck with purple highlights.
We then walked a few blocks to Masuki. It was about 11:30. Masuki used to be Ma Kong Mami. Their noodles were so good that the president of the Philippines at that time would order some and have them delivered to the Malacanang Palace. (It's not worth US$ 25,000 though).
We ordered Mami, siopao and siomai. What can I say, for a young man, Joseph does not eat a lot. he surrendered after half a bowl of mami.
After mami, we walked through Chinatown to the LRT terminal. I showed Joseph the place where I was robbed, our old house, our old business building. We went to the LRT Carriedo station and arrived home at 1 pm. We were sweating - A LOT!!!
A nice day with my son. Enjoying good food, memories and company.
Praise God...
