May 16-17: Power Outage and the Call to Holiness

I went to visit my sister who had her grandson over. My mother was later brought to the house. I spent some time with them. It was a good time to catch up with my mother. She's slowly showing signs of Alzheimer's. But it was still good to have time with her.

In the afternoon, I came back and found that there was a power outage. It was really very, very hot! I am still not 100% mentally because I could not understand what I was reading. Nothing eventful happened because I went to bed at around 9pm.

Today, I woke up at 4pm and began my morning prayer. At the mass, the priest was speaking about surrendering everything to the Lord. I think this is really a call to submit to God. He is the only One who is in control.

I have also been reading some of my reading assignments and one thing I note is that we are all called to holiness. The natural law was given to let us know what is right and wrong according to God's mind. It does not give us the power to obey it. Because of our sinfulness, we often fail. And this is where the law of grace enters. God wants us to be holy and by our conversion to Jesus, we are re-generated into a new creation.

We now have power to live like Jesus in obedience to God. However, this will take a very long time, probably after our death. In any case, holiness is a call for everyone. It is to be set aside so that we can stand out for the glory of God.

Let this be our prayer.
